Being in nature provides individuals with time to be mindful to their surroundings. Camping gives San Luis Obispo High School students the opportunity to step away from societal constraints and academic responsibilities. It seems simple, but until people are able to completely separate from society the ease isn’t like anything else. Expressions interviewed students who find themselves seeking refuge within the trees.
Expressions: What’s your favorite thing about enjoying the outdoors?
Senior Eden Rothstein: Probably just the lack of people.
Senior Lindsay Macleod: Seeing the nature and not being around people is really nice, also getting to observe things you’ve never seen before.
Junior Will Hastings: I think my favorite thing about being outside is being able to share beautiful surroundings with good friends.
Freshman Tobin Merriam: I can forget about school for a day or two, while you’re out there you can forget about your problems for while.
Expressions: What is your favorite area to go camping?
Rothstein: Silver shoals, the beach near Spyglass in Shell Beach.
Macleod: I just visited Burney Falls it was beautiful, it’s located in Northern California.
Hastings: There are some really cool camping areas up in Big Sur, one of my favorites is Plaskett Creek.
Merriam: Montana De Oro State Park is alright.
