The plethora of clubs at San Luis Obispo High School has always ensured that any student can find a niche where their interests are explored. This year the options of clubs have increased with the return of the Environmental Science Club (or Envi Club for short), started by seniors Emma Andersen, Colby Gonzalez, and Ellie Vendegna.
“The idea of living sustainably can be really overwhelming and seem out of reach unless [one is] willing to drastically change [their] entire lifestyle, but this club will allow for students to learn and get involved in a convenient and empowering way,” said Andersen.
The club discusses issues such as climate change, pollution, and personal waste, with hopes of converting SLOHS into a more environmentally conscious campus. Meetings will be held every Wednesday starting September 13 in science teacher Jenny McCartney’s room 105 at lunch.
“Hopefully we can spread awareness that we should work with the Earth rather than expect it to work for us,” said Andersen.
