The Shabang Music Festival is a highly anticipated event at San Luis Obispo High School, bringing live music, local talent, and unforgettable vibes to the community.
Set to take place this year on May 2 and 3 at the Dairy Creek Golf Course, across the street from Cuesta College on Highway 1, the festival will showcase a variety of genres, highlighting artists like Wallows, Briston Maroney, and a DJ set by Jungle.
With the memories of last year’s festival still fresh in students’ minds, the anticipation of this year’s events is brewing. Filled with Cal Poly students, high schoolers, and local music lovers from across the Central Coast, Shabang has never let fans down.
“Last year’s festival was honestly one of the best weekends of the year!” said Senior Lily Niven.
Drawn by the variety of experiences like art installations, food trucks, interactive zones, and live music, San Luis Obispo High School students look forward to a weekend filled with good times.
As AP exams and finals come closer to the near future, the festival offers a chance to reset and a distraction from academic stressors. Surrounded by music, nature, and community, this music festival, located in many students’ hometown, is an easy place to let loose.
As the festival continues to grow each year, so does its impact on the SLOHS student community. The rise in popularity has started to affect students who have never even attended, creating an unspoken FOMO that spreads through campus.
“The only reason I didn’t buy a ticket is it was too expensive, otherwise, I would’ve in a heartbeat!” said senior Cali Gros-Lowman.
Despite not knowing or being unsure about the music lineup, many students still find themselves drawn to the experience. Regardless, the vibes are unmatched and filled with good times.
“Everyone just seems happy to be there,” said junior Laurel Devitt.
More than just a weekend event, Shabang is becoming a staple celebration that students look forward to at the end of the school year. Filled with the best energy of San Luis Obispo County, May 2 couldn’t come closer!
