The Wellness Center is located smack dab in the middle of campus, having replaced the old library. Photo courtesy of senior reporter Oliver Lyons.
With the end of the second-trimester barreling towards San Luis Obispo High School students, many find themselves stressed or put off by the overwhelming nature of finals. If that happens to be the case, remember that the Wellness Center is always available! All photos courtesy of senior Oliver Lyons.
The first thing seen upon entering the Center. The sign-in Chromebook and a desk speckled with laminated sheets relating to mental health help and the spaces available within the room.
Counseling Secretary Anthony Aaron can be found at the reception desk during the middle hours of the day! Make sure to say hi!
A quiet room in which SEL Counselor Austin Miller meets with students on a one-on-one basis. Laminated sheets stuck to the window’s rim contain multiple different kinds of breathing exercises.
A desk with several self-help sheets to assist in grounding and settling a panicked or tense mind; more breathing sheets and fill-in-the-blanks papers.
This shelf has many activities, including puzzles, more breathing exercises, an emotions chart, and multiple little trinkets to fidget with.
Sand! A zen garden-esque area. Paint trails into the sand with engraved balls or grooved wood. Remember to dust the sand off the balls with the brush!
The ever-necessary coloring desk. Multiple different coloring books and coloring utensils can be found here, as well as the occasional crossword puzzle. Make sure to take a glance at the Monterey Bay Aquarium stream, playing live on the big screen every day.
An art display! This back corner holds support group meetings throughout the week, generally led by County Health Therapist Amanda Greenfield.
Many little games and activities are located to the left of the main reception desk. Though, maybe avoid the louder games like Jenga… The space is kept quiet to make for a comfortable and calming environment.
The center of the room, fit with cozy couches, blankets, pillows, and some more games!
Remember that the Wellness Center and its staff are always available for any form of help, Tigers. Make use of these facilities!
