San Luis Obispo High School Boys Soccer has finished their league season and is heading into California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) matches. Ranked thirty in the Central Section, the boys are crushing the competition.
After two goals scored by junior Aidan Dellinger and senior Alex Ochoa, the Tigers claimed victory over Dinuba on February 15. On February 14, the boys advanced into quarterfinals where they played Golden Valley and beat them 2-1, with goals from junior Jack Dunning who was selected player of the match, and Ochoa.
“The soccer landscape here is very competitive so I expect to see a great challenge!” said Boys Soccer head coach Neal Hetzel.
The boys expect some good competition on the twentieth in the semifinals against Mira Monte. SLOHS Boys Soccer has gone 12-8-3 (twelve wins, eight losses, and three ties), whereas Mira Monte has a 17-3-3 record.
“We hope to play well against Mira Monte and take home the trophy. It should go well considering we already beat the second seed and they [Mira Monte] are the third seed,” said senior Luke Oetman.
If all goes as planned, the boys will advance to the finals where they will hopefully take home the win.
“My favorite moment so far is probably upsetting the second seed [Golden Valley] in the quarterfinals. We feel pretty confident going into the semi’s after our win earlier this week. I think we have a really good shot at going all the way,” said junior Luke Robbins.
As 2024 Mountain League Champions for the first time in four years, the Boys Soccer team is on a great track to win CIF. Wish them luck in their next few matches, and give them support tonight!
