As 2024 came to a close, San Luis Obispo High School Expressions and a few students had their two cents on the best movies of 2024. Every year movies get better and better with updates to technology and new cultural norms and 2024 did not fall short of a new plethora of amazing movies. From a tennis themed romance thriller, “Challengers,” to the kids movie that everyone loves, “Moana 2.”
This year definitely had many must watch films.
“[‘Smile 2’] was the best horror movie created this past year,” said senior Caitlin Shaw.
The horror movies had everyone sleeping with one eye open, especially “Smile 2.”
The Expressions class took a poll and the outcome may shock some people. Fifty percent say that the famous director’s new film “Abigail” was the best while another twenty percent of the class is evenly split between “Longlegs” and “Don’t Move.”
Need a good laugh?
2024 has got that covered with some great comedy films. Expressions’ students give the best 2024 comedy movie Oscar to “The Fall Guy” and coming shortly behind are “Inside Out 2,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” and “Deadpool and Wolverine.” All of these movies have amazing reviews online and were extremely popular in theaters.
Now for the movies that had everyone on the edge of their seats. There were quite a few action movies with too many superheroes to count. Expressions class were split between “Deadpool and Wolverine” and “Twisters” for the best one. Both movies got in the mid 70’s on the “Rotten Tomato” scale, however “Deadpool and Wolverine” won by just three percent.
Now for the overall best movie of 2024. This decision is a personal one but “Dune: Part Two” wins by a landslide according to Expressions’ students.
“[The best 2024 movie] was the jaw dropping romance film ‘Anyone But You’, it definitely took the cake on this one,” said senior Caitlin Shaw.
Other students had different views.
“Best movie of the year is by far ‘Spaceman,’” said senior Kiera Beck.
With so many different opinions on the best movies, everyone can agree that tons of amazing movies were made this past year.
