“Life is Strange” is a 2015 story game where every choice the player makes affects them and their surroundings. San Luis Obispo High School students play all kinds of video games, but games like “Open Roads” and “Tell me Why” are both inspired by this incredible story.
“Life is Strange” takes place in a small fishing town called ‘Arcadia Bay’. The main character, Max Caufield, gets a vision of a storm that is going to destroy her town. Simultaneously, she realizes that she can manipulate time. After saving her best friend from getting shot, she realizes that she is the person who has to save her town.
“I think for the time [Life is Strange] came out it was a very new, fresh kind of story. I mean, it’s a time traveling ability activated by trauma essentially. It’s a pretty interesting concept,” said senior Oliver Lyons.
People all over the internet believe this to be true as well. Well renowned youtubers like Jacksepticeye, CaseOh and MatPat from Game Theory all have done gameplay and found that it truly is an entertaining and enthralling story.
Another similar game with twist endings and a groundbreaking story is “Before Your Eyes”. A 2021 release with comments on sickness and familial loss.
“It’s about a soul, and you’re on a boat and you are telling the ferryman essentially your life story and he is going to take you to a place that is going to judge you on whether or not you are a good person,” said senior Anika Richard.
Great games often are timeless, and even though “Life is Strange” is set in the early 2000s, it will be relevant and classic for years to come. Not for its graphics or setting but for the incredible storyline and socially relevant topics. Not everyone can travel time but everyone has one person in their lives they would sacrifice the world for.
