Some say that social science teacher Josiah Cameron lives inside the hallway of the Social Science wing. Regardless of speculation, he makes his class come alive! Photo courtesy of newspaper adviser Scott Nairne.
At San Luis Obispo High School, new teachers are always a welcome addition to the staff. Among the many people deciding to teach here at SLOHS, a new teacher has been added to the social studies roster: Josiah Cameron.
Expressions gathered some information about Cameron and his experiences at SLOHS during his first seven weeks.
Expressions: What are your thoughts on the school’s rallies?
Social Sciences teacher Josiah Cameron: They’re fantastic! I love the energy. Shout out to the sophomore class for a dominant display at the first rally!
Expressions: What made you want to teach at SLOHS?
Cameron: I was born in SLO, raised in Los Osos, and graduated from Morro Bay High. I taught in LA for fourteen years, but after my son was born, I decided to move back home to be closer to family. And as much as I love Los Osos, after living in LA, I just can’t deal with the fog anymore, so SLOHS was my first choice because of the weather.
Expressions: In your class, how productive are your students?
Cameron: In general, my students are eager to learn and very productive.
Expressions: What is your definition of social sciences?
Cameron: Social science is the study of human social interactions.
Expressions: Lastly, compared to other schools, what makes SLOHS special?
Cameron: I honestly haven’t been at SLOHS long enough to say. It’s a great school though – very happy to be here!
Cameron is a wonderful new teacher here at school, and is doing a great job for his class and community.
