As many San Luis Obispo students begin their journey as either a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior Or Senior; Here are a couple of SLOHS classes to watchout for and take if you dare.
These classes are not on here because of the teacher and how they teach, but we are taking into consideration of course work, the time spent working on it and the general vibrance surrounding those classes.
“All the hardest or toughest classes that I’ve ever taken have mostly been like a math or science class. But if it had to be one it would be like Calculus.” Said SLOHS Graduate Harrison Takken.
Students tend to struggle with a class like Calculus, after all, it’s only offered as an AP level course and the recommended pathway is taking any previous math classes and Pre-Calculus, which within itself is years of math credits to go through. Its course load is above most any other class offered on campus and it’s determined that you will need to study for hours after school each day. Now this isn’t meant to disway any students who need such a class for a college major or career, but if you’re planning on majoring in liberal arts, save yourself some mental trouble and maybe take the AP Stats pathway.
“Regular English Senior Year was so annoying because I feel like we shouldn’t even have to take this class. I had like only seven other seniors in my class,” Said SLOHS Graduate Marissa Dube.
English oftentimes is seen as a more relaxed and chill class compared to the rest of the main subjects you take at school.
Throughout campus though, English is considered a ‘waste of time’ and that brings up great debate over the requirement of 4 years of it to graduate from campus.
There are alternatives to a regular English class though: Any of the AP Lit or AP English classes are far superior and more enjoyable to Juniors and Seniors and are oftentimes more fun because of the readings and projects done inside those classes.
Creative Writing, and the Newspaper Production classes also help out with English elective credits, so take that into consideration.
“Chemistry B was like the hardest class for me, as a sophomore year so far.” said Junior Mateo Barba.
Ap and Honors are classes for the more demanding classes, but to newer or fresh students who don’t have much experience with some subjects like Bio, Chemistry or Physics, these CP classes can really be a surprise and end up being a turning point for their gradebook.
It’s okay to take a class and after a while drop it if it ends up being too much for you.
Many of the brightest students have dropped back from AP to Honors to College Prep just to save themselves from additional work, so SLOHS students try your best and take your time!
