San Luis Obispo High school prides itself on having a positive learning environment with fun teachers. What makes a good teacher good? Why do students love their teachers? What teacher traits stick out?
Expressions interviewed three random students to get some answers.
When asked who his favorite teacher is, senior Sloan Robbins replied with Economics teacher Greg Ross.
“My micro and macro economics teacher Mr. Ross is the best teacher. He gives good advice on life matters and is a really interesting person. He’s very wise and easy to talk to,” said Robbins.
“My favorite teacher is Mr. Simon, he’s very humorous and has some pretty interesting takes that are fun to listen to,” said junior Marco Petterson when asked who his favorite teacher is and why.
The traits that make a good teacher vary but a common theme of what makes a teacher worth remembering after graduation is student engagement.
Making students feel known, respected, and like an equal are all factors that boost teacher street cred around campus.
“My favorite teacher is Mr. Simon because he’s wholesome, he compliments his students, asks them how they’re doing, and makes everyones days better,” said senior Aiden Spurlock about English teacher Ivan Simon.
There are dozens of awesome teachers at SLOHS and students notice the ones that make getting through the school day a little or even a lot easier.
Expressions wants to say thank you to the awesome teachers on campus on behalf of all students.
