   Generation Z has had some pretty fun and weird trends, but arguably the most far-out trend has been 0.5 photos. Students at San Luis Obispo High School are taking these photos and posting them all over their social media, so why do they like them so much?  

  “Okay, first of all they are a lot cooler. It’s so much fun to take a 0.5 photo and then you zoom out and get the entire space behind you! It’s not just a picture of my friend holding up their pottery painting, it’s also a picture of everyone working on theirs in the background too,” said freshman Zoe Fujii. 

  Big foreheads, tiny bodies, jutting noses, and uber long arms; the skies the limit for these super funky and distorted photos. Starting with the iPhone 12 Pro, the ultra-wide camera lens can be accessed just by clicking the “0.5” button on your camera app, creating an almost fisheye effect. 

  “0.5 makes everything better. Like, how boring would a photo be if you couldn’t see my entire arm! And they are so diverse because you can get up close and personal or you can take them from far away,” said Fujii. 

  These kinds of photos are not only fun to see, but also fun to take. Since you have to use the back camera to take the photo, you can’t see what you look like until after it’s taken. This gives these photos a little bit more originality, and realness overall. 

  So next time it’s time for photos, try taking some 0.5 ones too. If you’re with friends, it will be easier to get everyone in the photo without having to squish. And if you’re by yourself, take one anyway. They are much more entertaining to look at, that’s for sure!
