Students and staff at San Luis Obispo High School received a notice in the morning on January 9 that school was canceled for the day due to extreme weather conditions. Later in the day, it was also announced that school was canceled on January 10 as well.
“At first it was exciting but now it’s really bad. I don’t have any power at my house and the roads around me are completely flooded,” said sophomore Lily Niven.
Some students were very excited about the extension of winter break but began to observe the crazed weather conditions.
KSBY reports a 5-year-old boy being swept away by the flood waters in Paso Robles and one other confirmed death related to the dangerous weather.
“Some of the streets I saw were like rivers and a few of the cars were completely submerged. I didn’t think the weather was going to be this bad, it’s crazy,” said junior Ainsley Stephens.
According to The Tribune, SLO County is experiencing lots of flooding, power outages, and road closures.
It will take SLO a while to recover from the immense damage of the storm. Stay safe out there Tigers!
