San Luis Obispo High School students enjoy using Spotify so what are everyone’s favorite songs and genres? People tend to differ on music taste, especially high school students.
“I would say there are a lot of Spotify users at SLOHS, when I am talking to someone about what streaming platform they use it is almost always Spotify,” said sophomore Faith Hartford.
As seen in the graphic, pop music seems to be the most popular genre among students. Indie, rap, and rock are solid runners-up.
Spotify has been well-liked among students. Other than Apple Music, it seems to be the main music platform at SLOHS. The unique features of Spotify are what make it stand out as a music streaming platform. Overall, it’s more accessible and more social.
“I have a premium subscription so it is nice to just play whatever song I want. Still, if someone does not have Spotify they can have a longer ad and free thirty minutes with no ads, so it is overall nice,” said Hartford.
In a poll asking students who their favorite artist was, Expressions got a wide range of answers.Singer-songwriter Mitski, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, recording artist The Smiths, and rapper Tyler the Creator seemed to be the most popular artists among SLOHS students. With such a wide range of music tastes, it is hard to pin down the most popular artist.
Several people were saying similar or the same artist but only two people said their favorite song was the same. Which was “Love Me More” by Mitski. Many people could not pick a favorite song. Similarly, Tyler the Creator was responsible for several people’s favorite songs.
“My top Spotify artist is Taylor Swift. I was the top 1percent listener so far,” said junior Makena Johnson.
K-pop, vintage pop and punk seem to be some of the least popular among SLOHS.
Students’ favorite artists, songs, and genres can differ from person to person and from day to day. Music is very important to SLOHS students and Spotify has been utilized as a great listening platform. Have fun listening, Tigers!
