Many students at San Luis Obispo High School rushed to attend the TV Girl concert last Thursday at the Fremont theater in downtown San Luis Obispo.
TV Girl is an American Indie pop band based in Los Angeles. They are known for their catchy social media hits “Not Allowed” and “Lovers Rock”.
Expressions interviewed students that attended the concert to see what they had to say regarding the event.
Expressions: People on social media have been saying that the band is not enjoyable live. What is your opinion on this?
Sophomore Naomi Garret: I’m not very well-versed with the members of the band apart from their music, so I thought seeing them live and hearing them talk was really enjoyable. The music was just as good, if not better, and they were very entertaining.
Senior Savanna Witt: Honestly I thought the band was great live, but that’s subjective for everyone. Jordana opened up and she was amazing.
Expressions: What is your favorite thing about live music?
Garret: I think my favorite thing about live music is the feeling of community. Seeing all the hands/flashlights waving around and hearing people sing along is something I really missed over COVID-19. Live music brings people together into a community of something they all enjoy, and I love being a part of it.
Freshman Addi Woods: I love everything about live music. Just seeing artists in person and the crowd environment is amazing. I love screaming the song while a bunch of other people around you do the same.
Expressions: Were you a TV Girl fan before the concert?
Woods: I knew some of the popular songs before the concert, but after I bought the tickets I started listening to most of their other music. My dad is a big fan of TV Girl and we have a lot of their records, so I’ve been listening to them for a while. Recently I added songs of tears to my playlist, but I’ve definitely been a fan.
Witt: I think I started listening to them in middle school and got more into them the past year.
Expressions: What is something that TV Girl fans have in common that differs from other fan bases?
Witt: There are a lot of queer people who love TV Girl. It was very welcoming in the audience being around so much representation that you don’t often see in one spot.
Woods: I think the TV Girl fan base is mostly girls but there are some guys. They also have a pretty cool fashion sense from what I saw other people wearing at the concert.
These students had an awesome time at the TV Girl concert and would definitely want to see them again!
