Are you a San Luis Obispo High School student participating in a sport? If so, Boost Nutrition is the perfect place to fuel up before your next workout, game, or practice.
Boost Nutrition is a health-based cafe located here in San Luis Obispo and was created by SLOHS alumni Bridget Devaney. The menu focuses on protein-based shakes, teas, and foods that not only taste great but are also a healthier alternative to your sweet cravings.
“My goal from the get-go was to provide a space with good vibes, positive energy, and drinks and food options that both nourish your body and taste really delicious. I want to make the world a healthier and happier place! I feel like what Boost provides is so necessary– and COVID has amplified that even more– and getting to be a healthier alternative for people’s favorite drinks, bowls, and breakfast foods has been really awesome!” said Devaney.
Boost first opened in September 2019 and since then has been serving local members of the community interested in health and fitness.
“It takes a village to accomplish anything, and my family was certainly supportive through the process of getting the business open. I have an amazing circle of friends who I knew would show up and be supportive, along with mentors who helped guide me through the process. And of course the community! Seeing the excitement generated through the process kept me going and they have certainly kept me open through all the uncertainty of the last year and a half,” said Devaney.
Boost’s menu items are divided into the following categories: shakes, smoothies, teas, refreshers, waffles, bowls, and donuts.
“The menu is BIG and has something for everyone. Pre-workout & post-workout options, dairy-free & gluten-free shakes and teas, energizing refreshers, protein waffles, donuts, and caffeine-free options. I’ve worked really hard to have options for all kinds of requests and dietary needs. I did develop the menu myself, although some of the recipes came from peers and mentors, or from customer inspiration! The need for clean energy and a ‘healthy fast food’ option really inspired me!” said Devaney.
How could anyone refuse something so delicious, yet so great for workouts and practices? Many SLOHS athletes, including many football players, use Boost as extra fuel.
“I like the cinnamon toast crunch shake. I think everyone at SLOHS would love Boost, because I know it’s good for me, I feel energized, and it’s delicious,” said senior varsity football player Rory Devaney.
