San Luis Obispo High School has had Lisa Washmuth as the Fashion and Interior Design Teacher for 17 years! After 22 total years teaching, she’s ready to say goodbye with the Class of 2021.
Expressions: Number of years teaching? Number of years at SLOHS?
Fashion and Interior Design Teacher Lisa Washmuth: I have been teaching for 25 years, 17 of them at SLOHS.
Expressions: What is your most memorable moment at SLOHS?
Washmuth: They mostly have to do with being an advisor for FCCLA. Thinking Shaun had shut the door after getting in the van, but he actually had just opened it and was running alongside the van. The toilets by a dumpster at a gas station we took pictures with. Watching kids work hard and come in 1st at State competitions and then receive gold at National competition. Also, dressing up a mannequin in FCCLA garb and taping a picture of Nairne’s face on top. Putting a “baby” in Kathy Buehler’s office when she wasn’t there. She was creeped out by them.
Expressions: What message do you want to leave to the students at SLOHS?
Washmuth: Take courses that you can use throughout your life. There is more to life than college. More and more employers are looking for skills, integrity, and a good work ethic instead of a college degree.
Expressions: What are the retirement plans that you have?
Washmuth: To move to a mountain area close to skiing. I have always wanted to teach skiing or be on a ski patrol. And ski way more than I can do from the coast of CA. I LOVE the mountains. And to travel with my husband.
