San Luis Obispo High School’s finals are just around the corner. But are students actually going to study?
This annual and dreaded experience by SLOHS students will be all virtual this year, beginning on June 7, through June 9, with the first final of each day being held from 8:15-9:45 a.m. and the second being 10:00-11:30 a.m. Expressions set out to interview a few of the SLOHS seniors who are preparing themselves for the last finals of their high school careers.
“I plan on compiling my notes and studying with friends for my important classes. For classes that are easier I’m winging it,” said senior Alex Prodanov.
With finals being online and many classes allowing the use of notes, students are less inclined than past years to get in the studying.
“I probably won’t study as much because I’m less motivated when learning online and I can use my notes. I’ve been using the pomodoro technique for years, I’ve always found it very helpful to keep me on track. Just find whatever study to break ratio works best for you and stick to it no matter what. Also don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re not doing well compared to previous years, you’re surviving a pandemic,” said Prodanov.
Especially for seniors, they are ready to get their finals done and look forward towards graduation.
“I will probably just glance over my notes a bit for my last time taking finals and put all the effort I can into my final projects. I always advise people to study a few days leading up to finals for short increments so that you don’t have to cram the last day. Also, often it’s what you put in the whole semester/trimester that determines your final outcome; ergo, I wound advise someone to work diligently from the get go,” said senior Genevieve Dandurand.
The fact that finals are online this year has allowed students to be less stressed in terms of cramming for their finals.
“Due to the number of hours in school decreasing dramatically this year, I have had significantly more time to enjoy my natural surroundings, friends, and education. Previous years I hardly had any free time so it was nice to take a breather as of late,” said Dandurand.
Good luck with preparing for your finals, tigers!
