This school year, 2020-21 San Luis Obispo High School has hired new teachers in a variety of subjects. Hired only about a week before school began, Expressions reached out to English teacher Victoria Acton to get some insight about her, and allow the student body to welcome her into the Tiger family.
Expressions: Did you live in SLO County when you received the job at SLOHS or did you move here?
SLOHS English Teacher Victoria Acton: I was living in SLO County when I was offered the position. I was so excited because I student taught and was a substitute teacher at SLOHS before being offered the position.
Expressions: What subject do you teach / what is your favorite thing about teaching it?
Acton: I teach English but specifically ERWC this year. I love teaching English because it allows for critical thinking and discussion about life.
Expressions: What do you enjoy doing outside of being in the classroom?
Acton: I love animals, the outdoors, and the beach!
Expressions: What drove you to teach high school students English?
Acton: When I was in high school, I received a lot of help from my teachers and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my time than to pay it forward and help generations to come.
Expressions: What’s your favorite thing to do outside of school?
Acton: I love checking out remote nature locations and photography.
Expressions: What’s one thing your students get wrong about you?Acton: Most people think I am younger than I actually am.
