Let’s start this article off with one simple fact: Pickles are the only thing that classifies as a fruit and vegetable.
Besides that fact though, pickles would take the crown anyday. The acidity of vinegar that pickles soak in gives the salty sour taste on the outside while the inside of the pickle will quickly moisten the mouth and the crunch will satisfy taste buds and ears of San Luis Obispo High School students.
Not enough to impress, what about the fact that pickles come in many different flavors and shapes. The classic being the dill pickle. Pickled with dill seeds and dill weed not only does the sour taste unleash childhood memories but the packaging of the iconic Vlasic Seal and the spear cut makes these bad boys a go to.
Pickles are also offered as kosher. These are favorites among New York delis and jewish family households. Kosher pickles have an additional garlicky and salty taste. Kosher Pickles are often considered the best snacking pickle.
“I love [kosher] pickles, they are a great snack,” said junior Sofi Wood.
If the classics are too vinegary and acidic there is the classic sweet pickle. Sugar is the secret ingredient to these and often does not leave the sour quenched face after taking a bite out of one. The biggest of all battles have started between those who like sweet and those who like dill. So instead of picking sides, pickle lovers of the world got blessed with the ultimate combination which is known as the Bread and Butter Pickle.
Bread and Butter pickles allow for a sweet but tart taste and have no resemblance to bread or butter. Most common on burgers or fried they truly are the key to open many doors.
There really is no argument on if or why pickles are great but if further explanation is needed, let’s talk about how pickles have transformed a once basic vegetable, the cucumber, into something worth talking about.
A true zero to ten transformation.
Pickles offer a chance for everyone no matter which kind to spice up meals, snack time, or even somebody’s life. Remember the motto; sweet and tart pickles will steal your heart.
