With hair salons just beginning to open up last week and nail salons, waxing places, and threading salons still closed, many San Luis Obispo High School students are embracing their natural beauty.
With nowhere important to go people have been giving their skin a break and not wearing makeup daily or have been getting rid of the heat that many use to do their hair daily.
Some students are finding this amusing while others vibe with the getting ready feeling everyday and miss it.
“During quarantine I don’t really wear makeup unless I am going out to visit friends or to the store which is probably really good for my skin but I miss getting ready. I really miss getting my nails done, it’s quality time I spend with my friends where we can just talk and hangout. I think nail places should open soon, as well as hair salons,” said senior Brooke Larson.
With summer approaching freckles become more apparent, UV rays may turn the hair more blonde, and skin becomes naturally more tan. With nowhere to go, no makeup, hair products, or self tanner is necessary. Natural beauty is beginning to shine, skin and hair is becoming healthier, with many embracing their natural look.
“Honestly I think nail places and hair salons should reopen and it should be at your own risk because they’re taking precautions with shields and wearing masks. As for my beauty routine it’s got very relaxed and just consists of no makeup or very little and just focusing on the basics,” said junior Gaia Villani.
Since the beginning of the pandemic nail places and waxing shops have been shut down and will be one of the last things to open back up. People crying at the thought of not being able to get their nails or eyebrows done. Hair salons just beginning to open up have people ditching boxed hair color which is very dangerous and either staying natural or hurrying to book an appointment at a salon before too many people have been in and out getting their hair done.
“My beauty routine has become less efficient, I don’t proceed to do it every night since I’m lazy. I believe that nail salons are not a good idea to open because it comes in physical contact [with others]. For hair salons, if they clean the equipment and wear masks it is good for people who need haircuts,” said freshman Brinley Ewen.
Allowing our natural beauty is beneficial to us loving ourselves, in addition to finding new habits or beauty routines that may stick. With more natural hair colors, less manicures or pedicures, and less makeup being worn we can all support one another and embrace the natural beauty the pandemic has further allowed us to show and become excited as beauty salons begin to open.
