Most students at San Luis Obispo High School may not involve themselves in the art of makeup as much as senior Aaron Norris. His sleek style is difficult to even attempt and requires a lot of time and a lot of money. His bold looks are creative and dramatic, as seen on his Instagram makeup account @a.norris.beauty.
Expressions spoke to Norris about his journey to becoming a professional MUA.
“[I started doing makeup] with Halloween stuff (as most people do) and I had a phase where all I would do was special effects and stuff. Then I moved on to the more typical makeup I do now, ‘Instagram makeup,” said Norris.
Norris draws most of his makeup ideas from other popular makeup artists on the internet, which are a big part of his inspiration. He then recreates those ideas in his own style, which add to his creativity.
“My biggest inspiration is actually my emotions. I draw a lot of creativity from myself and whatever the heck my mind is thinking. [My inspirations] people wise are Nikkietutorials, James Charles, Trixie Mattel, Aquaria, Kylie/glam, and Jeffree Star,” said Norris.
Norris has an important tip for makeup beginners.
“Just do what you want and also practice, practice, practice!” said Norris.
His journey to becoming a professional makeup artist has involved endless practice for Norris’s goal.
“I absolutely see myself in the industry of makeup. It’s a goal of mine to eventually start my own makeup company,” said Norris.
Norris has put much effort into his art, and his talent will pay off.
