Several students at San Luis Obispo High participate in non-school related sports. These various sports ranging from video gaming to archery. Expressions interviewed three freshmen to find out more about the unique sports they participate in.
Expressions: What sport do you play outside of school?
Freshman Cevina Manzano: I play AYSO soccer.
Freshman Javier Rivera: I play “Clash of Clans.”
Freshman Carson Krueckel: I hunt.
Expressions: Why do you participate in this sport?
Manzano: I play soccer because it gives me the opportunity to meet other people who share the same interest as me.
Rivera: It is really entertaining and I get to interact with my friends online.
Krueckel: It is really fun.
Expressions: How long have you been involved in this sport?
Manzano: I have been playing soccer for five years.
Rivera: For about four years.
Krueckel: I have hunted for five years.
Expressions: Who motivated you to play this sport?
Manzano: My parents made me try various sports, and soccer was the only sport that stuck.
Rivera: The internet.
Krueckel: My dad got me into it.
Expressions: What is the difference between your outside sport and a school sport?
Manzano: I feel like my outside sport doesn’t have as much pressure. There aren’t really high expectations, whereas high school sports are more for people who are serious about a sport.
Rivera: It gives me a new way to interact with people instead of the regular way.
Krueckel: Hunting is a very controversial sport, compared to any school sports.
