Freshman Sacha Carlson won the homecoming court early this year here at San Luis Obispo High School. Although he is just 15 years old, Carlson is involved in FFA, acting, dancing, playing the guitar, and singing. His acting skills even got him to perform in the television program, “A Christmas Story Live” (2017) as Scut Farkus. In the past few years of his rising fame, Carlson has become successful while balancing his extra activities, schoolwork, and eventually qualifying for homecoming court this school year.
Expressions: How do you feel about winning homecoming court?
Freshman Sacha Carlson: I just wanted to say that I was honored! It was really cool for me to represent my class like that. Big thanks to all the voters!
Expressions: How did you get to become a part of the homecoming court, as well as flourish this much?
Carlson: I just worked hard. I tried my best with everything and spread the love. I try to be successful at school.
Expressions: What is one of your top priorities right now?
Carlson: I just want people to be happy, and if I can help by saying “hi” or little things like that, then I’m going to do that every day.
Expressions: How would you define “success”?
Carlson: I feel like success means different things to everyone. It just depends on who you are and what you are trying to achieve. I have friends who are very focused on school and whose grades are their lives. But I also have friends who are trying to pursue something as a career outside of school, making school less of a priority.
Expressions: What steps do you think students should take to be their own version of successful?
Carlson: I feel like they should follow through and commit one hundred percent into what they want to do. And I’m talking about the bigger picture as well. I truly think being successful means also to be happy and love what you do. But before you reach that stage, you’re going to have to put some blood, sweat, and tears into it. No pain, no gain. Go big or go home.
