As summer continues to drag on, many San Luis Obispo High School students are getting curious about what they can do for little money, while still having a lot of fun. Expressions picked out some activities in and around the area that should help creating lasting summer adventures for students.
Hiking is one of the most popular outside activities. It’s free and good for you. San Luis Obispo has a lot of hills to offer (not mountains) So check out the various hiking trails, such as Bishop’s peak, Bob Jones Trial or Madonna.
“I absolutely love Bishop’s peak. It is more challenging than other trials like Madonna, but so much fun. The view is amazing,” said 2018 San Luis Obispo High School graduate Theresa Wucher.
Another activity to do is visiting the beach. If you haven’t noticed by now, the pacific ocean is ten miles away. You can find the most beautiful sunsets there, and get a sunburn too. If that sounds too boring, you can always grab a surfboard and go surfing.
“Surfing is something I love to do. I go as often as possible and enjoy every second of it. I can recommend it to everyone,” said 2018 SLOHS graduate Macarthy McConnell.
Camping is always a worthwhile adventure, however, it can be expensive, so try to camp somewhere for free. Camping places like Lopez Lake are enjoyed by many.
“I just like to camp,” said junior Celine Kroewig.
If you set a goal at the beginning of the year to read more, now is the time to get books for free at the local library. Just don’t forget to turn them back in time, because then it could be more expensive than a new book.
“Once I ended up spending $25 dollars because I forgot to return my book over summer. Be aware of your return dates,” said 2018 SLOHS graduate Sofie Haegeland.
Whatever you end up doing this summer, Expressions hopes you have a lot of fun and create some great memories.
