As warmer days roll around, many students are looking for something fun to do. Luckily, this summer, many new and exciting movies are hitting the theatre. With a mix of genres, there is something for everyone to view on the big screen. Expressions made a list of the summer’s most anticipated flicks.
“Eighth Grade” (2018)- From comedian Bo Burnham in his directorial debut, “Eighth Grade,” follows thirteen year old Kayla during her last week of middle school. Voted “Most Quiet” by her peers, Kayla is confused and struggling her way through adolescence. Given rave reviews at Sundance Film Festival, this independent dramedy will have everyone who has ever been a young adult shudder at the familiar yet endearing situations young Kayla finds herself in. “ Eighth Grade” hits theatres July 13, 2018.
“I’m excited about this movie coming out because I feel like it will be a piece of art that teenage girls can relate to and allow them to feel comfortable in themselves,” said 2018 San Luis Obispo High School graduate Camryn Goodwin.
“Incredibles 2” (2018)- Twelve years after the endeared original came out, the much anticipated follow up hits theatres on June 15, 2018. The sequel follows Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, and Jack-Jack in their attempt to live a normal life, this time with Mr. Incredible staying at home with the kids. Featuring the original cast, the film hits theatres June 15.
“Every single Friday night, I watched ‘Incredibles’ when I was little, so I’m excited to see Jack-Jack become part of the family,” said 2018 SLOHS graduate Michele Chavez.
“The First Purge” (2018)- Following “The Purge”, “The Purge: Anarchy”, and “The Purge: Election Year,” the next film in the highly successful series takes viewers back to the first purge, conducted in a small community as a test. However, once started, the violence cannot be contained and begins to spread across the nation. Fans of the previous movies and new viewers alike can see the film when it hits theatres July 4.
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (2018)- The sequel to the summer 2016’s “Jurassic Kingdom”, the film takes place four years after Jurassic World was destroyed. Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) have returned to the abandoned island to save the remaining species of dinosaurs before a volcano erupts.
