Attention San Luis Obispo High School Tigers, California voter pre-registration is open for people that are 16 and 17. Pre-registering makes voting possible as soon as a person turns 18, although this does not change the voting age. In order to pre-register for the June election forms must be completed by May 21 for a regular ballot and May 26 for a mail in ballot. For the November election registration is due on September 23 for a regular ballot and September 29 for a mail in.
“I think pre-registering is great. It shows a commitment to political activism and involvement. If you don’t vote you won’t be represented,” said junior Cassidy Clark.
San Luis Obispo’s local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is trying to get five hundred people to register before the November election as well as trying to find people to help them canvas. NAACP membership meetings are the second Tuesday of each month.
“Young people have the power to save our democracy from corporate dictatorship with their vote,” said San Luis Obispo NAACP political activist chair Scott Mann.
