San Luis Obispo High School students have been choosing Rite Aid as their lunch spot for many years now. A location so iconic for SLOHS students for decades, is now closing, after over twenty years of service to the community of San Luis Obispo.
“Rite Aid fulfilled my needs, and seeing it go just breaks my heart,” said junior Beau Crew. “It is obvious that a lot of current and past high school students are sad to see such a legendary lunch hang out spot for so many people be shut down.”
Rite Aid as a whole is not closing, but the majority of its locations have filed for bankruptcy and are closing stores across the US, including all of its stores in San Luis Obispo County.
“I did not go to Rite Aid often at lunch, but when I did, they always had the stuff I needed,” said junior Santiago Amaya.
Even for people that did not go often, it was still a great spot to grab some quick snacks or the rest of the day. Rite Aid is a store that lots of people relied on to get lunch if they didn’t want to get a full meal or even just something to snack on for the rest of the school day.
“I would go from time to time, but it is pretty crazy that it’s closing because so many kids went there,” said junior Bear Plemons.
There are so many kids who are sad to see Rite Aids leave, even if they didn’t go that much. Rite Aid wasn’t just good for class of 2027, all classes prior to us have been going since it opened. Now that Rite Aid has served its time with students, it’s time to move onto Smart and Final. It may be a worse alternative, but it’s really SLOHS students only choice for a store within walking distance.
