San Luis Obispo High School’s Freshmen Football team kicked off against Mt. Whitney High School for their first game last week at Holt Stadium and won, with a staggering score of 54-20. Spectators and athletes are hopeful for SLOHS football this year, and show optimism for the team’s success.
“We played really well. I’m proud of our guys, we were able to get the win, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for this season,” said freshman football player Connor Lee.
Roused by the freshmen team’s stunning victory, the general verdict of SLOHS students this year shows that they believe the football teams will have a great run. Some students who were in the stands at the game shared their thoughts about the teams’ potential this season.
“I think that [the freshman football team] is very good, and based on that game, they’re going to go a long way, and maybe even go undefeated. And the JV, they had a very good lead, and they ended up losing in the end, but I think they have a very promising season ahead of them, and I didn’t watch the varsity game, but after hearing that they won 31-0, I think they have a great start to the season and they’ll go very far,” said sophomore Zachary North.
In addition to the tremendous win of the freshman team, the SLOHS Varsity Football Team also won against Mt. Whitney with a huge score of 31-0. Led by Senior quarterback Jacob Gill, the team triumphed with two touchdowns from senior Colbin Garrison, one passing touchdown from Gill, and junior Grady Garrison with a blocked punt.
“The Tigers showed a lot of great stuff on Friday. They’re in the best situation possible where they got a lopsided win, but still have a lot to correct and improve upon,” says Varsity Football coach Pat Johnston.
The football teams are looking promising this season, and fans are excited to see what’s in store for this year’s Tiger football.
