Local San Luis Obispo eatery Crumbl cookies have become a popular treat on campus.
Crumbl is known for its large cookies, rotating flavors, and pink boxes.
This business has grown rapidly in popularity since being founded in 2017, with 1,000 stores in all 50 states.
But not everyone is a fan.
Some SLOHS students love the sweet trend while others feel it’s overpriced or just not that good. The San Luis Obispo High School campus is split as the crumbl cookie craze sparks debate.
Although many students enjoy Crumbl’s cookies, some believe they are too expensive. One cookie is about $4–5, which is more than most store-bought or homemade cookies. Crumbl also sells packs of 4, 6, or 12 cookies, costing between $19.49 and $50. The cookies are big—about 5 to 6 ounces each—so fans say the price makes sense. But others feel it’s still too expensive for just one cookie, no matter the size.
“It’s overpriced for the same cookies you can make at home, but I think some of them are good. But I think some of the flavors are just getting reused too much. I just think it’s so much money for like a box of four cookies, it’s way too much money. I don’t know why people buy Crumbl weekly,” said Freshman Luca Bellisario
Crumbl’s rotating menu keeps people interested, with new and different flavors every week. Crumbl’s team has come up with unique flavors like Brownie Batter, Buttermilk Pancake, Dirt Cake, and Banana Cream Pie to grab attention and make customers want to try what’s next. While this makes Crumbl a popular treat, it can also lead some people to overeat and spend more money than they expect.
“I think since they drop flavors weekly, people tend to like, want to go every week, so it’s like kind of addictive. I think for the quality of the cookie, the price is fine the way it is,” said freshman Kate Fouhy.
While Crumbl’s prices may be too high for some customers to enjoy every week, many still find the cookies enjoyable and see them as a fun treat to share with friends.
“I do enjoy getting crumbl, it’s a good price for how much you’re getting, personally, because it is a lot of cookies, and they are really big, so I think it’s a good place, but I think sometimes the flavors are very much overrated, but that dosent mean i dont enjoy getting crumbl cookie,” said senior Kylie Self.
Crumbl Cookies gets mixed reactions and reviews from the company’s customers, including students on the SLOHS campus. Still, a lot of students enjoy them, and they’ve become a popular treat on campus.
