Oh what a difference almost 11 years of construction has done to the SLOHS campus. Graphic Courtesy to freshman Kandon Sullivan.
The change to the SLOHS campus has been drastic throughout the years. Our very own SLOHS seniors have experienced these changes throughout their four years here at San Luis Obispo High School.
San Luis Coastal Unified School District put forward a bond measure (Measure D) to SLO city residents in 2016. This Bond Measure passed and construction on SLOHS started the next year.
High school campus changes often involve renovations, replacements, and additions to facilities. Many High Schools in California have begun making changes to their high school to make them feel more “modern”.
SLOHS is no different.
“When I first started coming to SLOHS freshman year there were a lot of portables for English and now I get to have my classes in this big nice building, overall it’s just been really great,” said senior Bridgette Brown.
The SLOHS campus changes have overall created a great impact on all. Students at SLOHS have made many never-forgetting memories.
“For me being apart of the sports has been one of my favorite memories because I feel like our school doesn’t have so much spirit when it comes to rallies, events, and spirit days, so I have found the most enjoyment playing sports and meeting people through that.” said senior Maddie King.
Sports are a really big thing at SLOHS, and students tend to enjoy playing them and even attending to cheer on. Not only has the campus itself changed, but the community within it has over the last four years.
“It been really different from my senior to freshman year because it was covid my freshman year so we weren’t aloud to go anywhere or do anything and everyone had a mask on so you couldn’t see anyones faces, and this year it feels more lightly and everyone’s closer,” said senior Eliza Flushman.
School isn’t always the worst thing, and sometimes a change to the campus can change someone’s perspectives on school. The new SLOHS campus has created a closer and happier environment for all.
