The most recent election victory of former president Donald J. Trump has adult voters and even students at San Luis Obispo High School from the Left wondering who is the right fit for our country.
Groups of citizens in our country and even those as close as our school community, will be affected by the changes he has made to the laws and policies that have been in place for many years now by previous leaders.
“Trump’s making disturbing economic decisions, and I wouldn’t be surprised if The Department of Education losing funding could influence us significantly,” said senior Leonardo DeTurris.
President Trump made an order yesterday to eliminate the Department of Education. This could be influential to the students and school staff in our country due to its beneficial aspects to our community. The Department of Education provides funding for programs, civil rights laws, and federal financial aid to improve the lifestyle of schools in the US, and removing this system would take it away entirely.
“I think that women will lose more rights from President Trump being in office because he takes away their protective freedom,” said freshman Keira Dube.
In recent news, it has been reported that several women’s rights will be taken away, specifically abortion rights. These rights could be significant to the healthcare needs of women in our country. Women’s abortion rights are disputed amongst many people due to them being in control of their reproductive health and overall well-being, and removing that could have the chance to impact equality and the economy of our country.
“I think that Trump getting rid of DEI is showing that he is not being inclusive with groups of people that have already been discriminated against in the past,” said freshman Juliana Huizar.
Shortly after taking office, President Trump began a pullback on “illegal DEI discrimination” and investigations on companies began to roll out for their DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) policies. Experts of DEI have argued that these promises are essential to ensuring equal opportunities in education and employment, contributing to a supportive environment for all individuals.
Trump’s recent laws and regulations have caused some controversy among American citizens but most are in favor of them. Even due to mass amounts of voters praising him over these rules, lots of citizens are still being affected by them daily.
Moving forward, as a society we need to stand up for what we believe in and make sure there are equal rights for all. We as the next generation will shape the future for the coming years, what will the Tigers do to help?
