With limited after sunset activities for San Luis Obispo High School students current movie releases are not being praised. Often the best movies are released during the summer or holidays however many students have not been enjoying those movies either.
“Current releases in the theaters look bad. Including the Minecraft movie looks pretty trash,” said sophomore Paula Stickinson.
Movies in theaters on March 20, 2025 include “Disney’s Snow White”, “The Alto Knights”, and “Black Bag”. Sales are going down compared to summer releases on average by about 55 percent.
“Traditionally, the studios typically hold on to their bigger films. So you get a ton of sequels. Along with, realizing 75 percent of the way through the making of a movie it’s not going to be great but they will still release it for some money,” said arts and media teacher Jason Heimerdinger.
As we are in spring many companies will hold their top releases for summer. Causing many people not to enjoy the current movies.
“I’m not a huge fan of any of them that have come out recently,” said junior Zara Zedeek.
Overall Tigers, although movie releases may not be as popular right now, it’s always worth a try.
