What a great way to end Trimester 2! The Spring Choir Concert was amazing. Photo courtesy of SLOHS newsletter.
Many of the San Luis Obispo High School students know about the large activities going on at the school (sports, ASB run activities, and the musical plays), yet beyond that there are the annual Choir concerts.
There are not many assemblies every SLOHS individuals must attend (thank goodness!) But the ones students go to can be entertaining such as the annual music assembly where everyone gets to see talents ranging from the bands to choir.
“The biggest choir event we have out of all our performances in choir, from my knowledge, is the Cuesta College Choir Festival. This is where we perform and watch many other high school choirs perform. This is my first year in Chamber, making it my first time performing at this festival, and I am very excited to participate in it.” said sophomore Sila Hendricks.
Each person is given a hint of how much work the choir elective functions via assemblies, or for the plays placed on every year. However, no one knows how those electives work than the ones participating in it.
“The spring concert is where we pull out our most difficult songs. So chamber pulls out our really hard choral pieces, and [Intro to Vocal Arts P] does more pieces, based on different poems like Shakespeare, or they do more uplifting songs. But the technique over each concert gets pretty hard, but it’s super fun when we get to perform it at the end. So our spring concert is definitely one of my favorites,” said senior Jessie Cross.
These events are challenging for these students. Do choir kids enjoy performing in front of other high school students? Or is it something that they must do despite how they feel about it?
“I think it’s always a little bit more nerve wracking to perform in front of your peers than it is parents, who are just gonna like it regardless. But it’s still fun. It’s a good way to kind of incorporate the whole school in the performing arts, which is fun,” said senior Gianna Dossa.
Singing and singing all the way to the end let Tigers cheer for their wonderful work!
