San Luis Obispo High School is no stranger to videogames, and this recently released game would be great for students.
“Antonblast” is a side-scrolling 2d platformer released in December 2024, with a few demos before the release. On release, the game received lots of praise, However, the game is relatively unheard of at San Luis Obispo High School, and this article intends to bring attention to it.
“Antonblast” was developed by Summitsphere, as a direct sequel to one of their previous games, “Antonball”, a breakout style game that mixed in platforming elements. Summitsphere has also worked on “Annalynn”, a platformer that aimed to replicate the feel of a classic arcade game.
“From what I’ve heard, “Antonblast” seems like a good game,” said junior Brandon Espinoza.
The story plays out almost like an episode of a cartoon. Satan, the antagonist, is jealous of the fact that Anton is redder than him. In result Satan steals Anton’s Spirits to lure Anton so he can siphon his redness. The whole story plays out exactly like that, with no significant character developments, really hammering home the cartoony plot.
The artstyle is inspired heavily by urban graffiti and cartoons, with spray painted graffiti in almost every level. With unique and chaotic environments that you just have to play to experience.
“Unlike other games that have more generic cartoon styles, [Antonblast] takes its own way of expressing itself,” said junior Jesus Rivera Martinez.
The gameplay follows suit of “Wario Land 4” with players blasting through levels, destroying everything in their path, finding the spirit in the level, and then getting to the Spirit Timer. Once activated, “Happy Hour” will be started and players will need to rush back to the exit elevator to complete the level.
“You have to make sure you are quick enough to understand the mechanics of the game,” said Martinez.
“Antonblast” is a real blast of a game tigers, try it out!
