It’s 2025! Christmas is over and the New Year has begun. With that comes new year’s resolutions, but why make them? Why do some people have such a hard time keeping up with them?
A new year’s resolution is a goal that people set for the new year, usually something positive like getting rid of a bad habit. Sometimes it’s hard to keep these resolutions going, even if it’s just small, like doing 10 pushups before bed.
“I want to get better at Baseball, surf more, go snowboarding, and have straight A’s… There are no differences from previous years,” said freshman Rylon Rhys.
Most resolutions here at SLOHS are very similar. The most popular being, working out more, getting straight A’s, getting better at sports, and getting better sleep. These being the most common makes sense because most of them are the most popular new year’s resolutions in the world.
Other students had unique resolutions that stood out from their peers.
“My 2025 new year’s resolution is to start up my own business… This is very different from last year because I didn’t have any new year’s resolutions, so I’m excited to work towards one… I really hope I will be able to keep my resolution goin for a long time,” said freshman Kai Castillo.
People make new year’s resolutions because they hope to spark a positive change in themselves. It can also be used as a challenge to see your determination and discipline.
Some of the best ways to keep resolutions going is to start small, too big of steps can leave you demotivated whereas small steps can build you up to bigger things. Make sure to plan the resolution, sometimes you can wing it but it’s better if you plan ahead so everything stays organized.
Make sure that it’s realistic though. As much as everyone would like to be able to accomplish their biggest dreams.
It can’t all happen in a year. So get to work and happy New Year!
