Over the summer, the Boys Basketball team has proven that this year, a new brand of tiger basketball has risen. San Luis Obispo High School’s highly anticipated basketball season is here, and much has changed with the team’s new reloaded roster and coaching staff since last season.
Last year the teams seasons ended short after a first round loss to Garces High, shortly after, varsity head coach Christopher Grieves stepped down from the head coaching position leaving the program back at square one. That spring, coaches Keith Spidel and Dave Gomes were announced as co-head coaches and wasted no time getting the program back to work.
Grinding day in and day out, the team made major strides in their gameplay, and on October 13 the boys put that on display beating a top ranked team in Division II Frontier High, 29-56.
“Well I believe this season is going to be awesome, with our shooting and playmaking, it reminds me of the 2016 Golden State Warriors. Not many teams will be able to beat us,” said sophomore varsity basketball player Beau Crew.
This season isn’t one you want to miss, especially the SLO Town Showdown, the local rivalry versus Mission Prep which takes place Friday January 17, at home. Last year the Tigers went even with them in the series tying 1-1.
“You can’t achieve success by following another path, you must create your own,” said junior varsity basketball player Hayden Brandow.
Boys Basketball over the years have been historically underperforming, but with the new coaching staff, pure talent from the players, and great team chemistry, this year has huge upside to go far in the playoffs and put Tiger basketball back on top.
