Want something fun to go do that is also on theme for the holidays? Consider going to the PAC production of the “Nutcracker” during December 13 through 15! San Luis Obispo High School is full of people with diverse talents and interests, with many being part of this amazing performance.
“I think that students at SLOHS should go see the ‘Nutcracker’ since it’s a magical experience for anyone at any age. It’s amazing to see people who have dedicated so much time to practicing and training for this show finally perform it,” said sophomore Hayley Tsau.
The “Nutcracker” is an iconic ballet performed globally around the holidays since its original creation in 1892, yet it is always a fresh and creative experience for all involved, with unique elements incorporated into each and every reiteration.
For dancers, even if it’s their third, fifth, or even tenth “Nutcracker” it’s always a memorable time.
“The thing I enjoy the most about participating in the ‘Nutcracker’ is probably how much of a community effort it feels like. You get an incredible opportunity to perform while making memories with friends,” said junior Lupe Arias McGrath.
Throughout the year dancers at Civic Ballet (as well as other dance companies) work tirelessly on their skills and as they near the annual performances they commit more and more time to rehearsals.
“I spend about twelve to eighteen hours a week in rehearsals outside of my regular dance classes,” said freshman Madison Palmerston.
Going to see the “Nutcracker” is more than just entertainment, it’s supporting local dancers and developing a deeper understanding of ballet each time, and it’s a great tradition for opening into the holiday season.
“I think that students at SLOHS should go see the ‘Nutcracker’ because it is a holiday tradition. This year will be the 47th ‘Nutcracker’ and each year the scenes are new and different including some new costumes,” said Palmerston.
It’s an elaborate performance that brings people closer together and builds community every year, ticket prices range from between $28-82.00 depending on which seats, and which performance is chosen to attend. Even if you don’t know anything about the “Nutcracker”, it can be a valuable experience with beautiful costumes and music, the SLOHS choir is even singing in the performance!
So go support your tiger dancers, and go see the “Nutcracker”!
