The San Luis Obispo High School Theater Company will continue performing the play “Our Town” October 18-19 and 24-25, with two shows on the nineteenth.
“Our Town” will be performed at the round in the San Luis Obispo High School theater and will showcase 27 SLOHS students.
The play “Our Town” is set in early 1900s New Hampshire and focuses on the daily lives of the citizens of Grover’s Corners. The play is set more than a century ago showing the hardships and stories of the people of the town.
Many are unfamiliar with the play but are interested in seeing the play.
“There is a drastic difference between modern days and stuff in the past and like a lot of languages are also used differently. The tone that people talk has changed throughout the years so I think it might be hard but the older the people are the more they’ll be to relate,” said freshman Brooke Markowitz.
Students who attend the play will see how it still emotionally reaches audiences despite how old it is.
“If the struggles are modern, people can relate, but a lot of things like money and politics and language changed over that time so that could be part of it,” said freshman Claire Fake.
The theater program has been working hard since the start of the year to perfect these roles. It is very dedicated to drama and has talented people playing the roles.
“You can just see that they are very professional and do a very good job at bringing those roles to life,” said “Our Town” performer and freshman Charlie Biggers.
Often the audience members are interested in watching the play simply because their friends are there and can’t wait to see them in action. The theater program is excited to showcase what they have been working on to SLOHS. The members of the program enjoy producing the play and dedicate their time to put on a good show.
“It’s just a really great community and all the people are really nice. Generally it’s really fun to put on and everybody’s trying to have a great time,” said Biggers.
The SLOHS production of “Our Town” is a must-watch because the cast and everyone involved has been working hard to perform for an audience.
The play is a great way to support the theater program and our school, so make sure to get out there and see it. Go to slohsdrama.ludus.com for ticket information.
