San Luis Obispo High School Students are preparing for the upcoming Halloween holiday. Many are starting to think about the event: such as pumpkins, candy, costumes, and more festive activities. An activity some students think about more than others and that is watching horror movies. Students are excited to watch their favorite horror movie this year and either watch new ones or old ones that they enjoyed.
“I’m excited for Halloween movies, I hope they’re as good as last year’s Halloween movies that I watched,” said sophomore Luis Reyes.
Horror movies entertain lots of people and allow students to watch with their families and friends, contributing to the fun of Halloween.
There are 18 horror movies in theaters right now, which shows that people are definitely in the mood for some scary times. Currently in theaters, the top three horror movies on the Rotten Tomatoes movie review site are “Hush”, “Sleep”, and “Daddy’s Head”.
As far as horror franchises go, “Terrifier 3” is currently playing close by at the Regal Theater in scary Arroyo Grande.
“Terrifier 3” tells the story of two siblings struggling to rebuild their shattered lives after surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. But just when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. The festive season quickly unravels as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.
Sounds…horrifying.
“I like Halloween movies, and I think they are pretty festive and set the mood up for Halloween,” said sophomore Ivanna Rios.
Lot’s of high school students focus more on the most important parts of Halloween whereas some kids like the movies that get you scared for the holiday or even allow them to feel a different way towards the event.
“My personal favorites ‘Hocus Pocus,’ ‘Practical Magic,’ ‘The Village,’ ‘Edward Scissorhands.’ and ‘The Shining’ are my all-time favorites,” said English teacher Lynnly Sainsbury.
Even teachers have opinions on their favorite horror movies and can change the way they think of a film or about the Halloween tradition.
Go out and watch some horror films to up your spookiness. Besides, who needs to sleep?
