Video games are a popular pastime of students at San Luis Obispo High School. While some students prefer to play video games on gaming consoles others prefer mobile games. The popular international mobile and PC applicable game Roblox has been around for nearly twenty years. It has many games made by players themselves including the viral sensation: “Dress to Impress”.
The explosive fashion game gives players 325 seconds to use a set of clothing, shoe, accessory, and hair items to create an outfit corresponding with a theme. It gained popularity in the spring and since then “DTI” has gained over three billion visits on the game. It has gained a large online following with people making whole social media accounts dedicated to showing off their outfits.
The game has shown its popularity among the SLOHS population.
“It’s a fun competition, and it’s nice to see other people’s takes on certain aesthetics,” said freshman Rio Ancheta-Johnson.
The game provides a nice creative outlet due to its endless gameplay. There are hundreds of unique themes that rotate each round, exposing players to unique styles from around the world such as “Gyaru” and “Harajuku”, Japanese fashion styles.
“My favorite theme right now is ‘mythical creature’. You can do loads with that theme,” said freshman Sophia Kuang.
The game has also gained attention for its unique lore. The NPC nail tech named Lana was originally given a diary as an April Fools joke. It detailed how she hated her job and would “get revenge on the players”. Fans loved it so much that Lana got whole other games, quests with exclusive item rewards, and her own salon in the game.
“I love the Lana lore; it’s actually the main reason why I like [DTI],” said freshman Evie Oliveira.
Many players follow the lore like it’s their favorite show. There are many that make full length YouTube videos with updates on it.
The game has even reached the heights of collaborating with a well-known celebrity. In August “DTI” released a set of items in partnership with British Musician Charli XCX for the release of her album “Brat”.
“It was pretty random, but a good end to the Brat Summer,” said Ancheta-Johnson.
Since “DTI” can be played on mobile, that means players can play anywhere at any time. Some students have even been spotted playing “DTI” around campus before school and at lunch on their phones.
“DTI” will have its first anniversary tomorrow, October 18. Seeing the fan base and amazing improvements it’s made in just its first year, fans can’t wait to see what will happen next.
