San Luis Obispo High School Basketball is having their offseason practices in September meaning players and coaches are getting ready for tryouts.
Players are also excited for what the roster will look like such as seeing the work they put in during the summer. Coaches will meet new faces that haven’t tried out before. Athletes will get to showcase their skills to the coaches and impress them.
“It’s going to give you a chance to prepare. Coming into the tryout week, they should feel like they’re going to have a shot,” said Varsity Basketball Coach David Gomes.
In addition to basketball starting up, lots of athletes and coaches are getting excited to start working and having new people try out for the team this year.
“The biggest part is changing the culture, and making sure the kids are feeling supported and respected,” said Gomes.
Since new athletes are joining the program every coach wants to welcome them and make sure they get a chance.
“Players get to make connections with new people and be a part of the program,” said sophomore basketball player Beauden McConnell.
Players will get to try new things and meet new people that they haven’t before which are benefits of being on the basketball team.
Now that summer practices are over it’s time for after-school practices and the tryout schedule to come out.
Be sure to go to the big gym or small gym if you made the team, Tigers.
