With the NFL season beginning soon, San Luis Obispo High School students have started their fantasy football leagues.
Every year, roughly 29.2 million people play fantasy football. To be a part of that 29 million, all someone would need to do is join a league. But how would they do that?
First, they must consider who they want to be in their league. Fantasy football is usually the most fun with competitive people, family, or friends.
Then players need to think of what platform to play on. There are plenty of different apps and websites, but the best ones to play for free are ESPN and Yahoo.
Once in the league, people can draft a team of NFL players, and then go through a season with those players. The goal of fantasy football is to win games and to do that teams need points. To get those points the team’s players need to gain stats, with the most crucial stat being touchdowns.
“I’ve been playing fantasy football since second grade. It’s a great thing with family and friends and makes watching football more fun,” said sophomore Oscar Fenton.
Although watching football is fun, having a fantasy team helps people learn about new players and watch games they usually wouldn’t care about.
However, not everything is great in the fantasy football world. Many leagues play for punishments and rewards.
“Last year, the winner got to choose the loser’s Instagram bio for a month. The winner also got a bunch of money,” said senior Ben Davidson.
A major part of fantasy is the draft. In the draft, managers pick their whole team for the rest of the year.
“I think this year Sam Laporta will be a steal. If you can get him on your team you’re good,” said former SLOHS student Albert Lister.
Fantasy football is a fun thing to do with everyone. Even if someone has never watched football, giving fantasy a try couldn’t hurt.
Get ready for an exciting season of fantasy football!
