Students and staff around San Luis Obispo High School may have noticed the recent bouts of sickness going around campus.
Along with the predictable winter flu, new strains of COVID-19 have also surfaced among many afflicted students.
“One of my classmates in second period got it. I think it would be a good idea to wear masks again because I recently got sick twice over the course of three weeks,” said senior Scott Yoshinobu.
Of course, small virus outbreaks are fairly common in schools and most cases are usually nothing to be concerned about.
“I don’t think there’s anything alarming with the number of kids that are having COVID, because just as many kids are having other viruses and colds and flus right now,” said agricultural chemistry and animal science teacher, Anna Bates.
Fortunately, this strain of the COVID-19 virus does not seem to be spreading on the SLOHS campus at an alarming rate, but as some feel, it is still important to be cautious.
“Most of my family got sick over Christmas break. I feel like if it gets really bad, like when COVID first started, then we should probably do something about that because it could get worse,” said senior Maylin Ayala Romero.
With a constant stream of germs spreading around the school, small outbreaks of illness are to be expected. However, considering that students are beginning to catch new strains of such a contagious virus, staying aware of the situation should be a priority. Stay safe Tigers!
