Freshman year is a very important year for those who are new to San Luis Obispo High School. It can be a little intimidating at first with all the new people and a hectic campus.
High school is very different from middle school with new people, rules, classes and routines. It is totally normal to feel anxious and nervous at first, but after a while students like freshman Joel Delgado get used to it.
The classes do become challenging over the years, but teachers will always be there for when a student needs extra help. Middle school teachers will help students prepare for high school by building the students’ knowledge and skills they already have.
“It’s so much harder than I thought because Laguna [Middle School] was not as hard as high school,” said Delgado.
Classes do get harder, but students can always get help and make sure to ask questions when stuck on an assignment. Teachers want to prepare students for college which does mean more homework, harder tests and more studying.
“There’s a lot of stuff going on in my classes, and band is keeping me busy,” said Delgado.
Make sure to ask questions to teachers if something isn’t understandable and ask for extra help if needed.
“The class I’m looking forward to is welding. I feel like that’s gonna be a very fun class,” said Delgado.
Absolutely do have fun and enjoy the classes, join clubs and sports if interested and enjoy the last years of being a teenager!
