Physics teacher Brendan McLoone will not be returning in the fall to teach at San Luis Obispo High School, and students will miss his presence on campus. His bright personality, hands on teaching style, and Scottish accent are only a few of the wonderful things about McLoone.
“He really tried to teach in different ways that people can understand and engage with all of us, so I felt like I got to know him as a teacher and a friend by the end of it,” said 2022 SLOHS graduate Maren Ritterbuck.
Students also loved McLoone’s hands-on teaching style, utilizing labs and unique teaching methods, such as a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain, an egg drop, and bottle rocket launches.
“I think when he got on the roof of the big gym and started dropping eggs it was pretty entertaining. We also played physics Squid Games, and the amount of effort he puts in his classes really shows,” said 2022 SLOHS graduate Grisha Dekhtyar.
McLoone’s teaching style allowed for problem solving, growth, and direct help on specific questions.
“He’s not super aggressive, and he wants people to learn and doesn’t really enforce specific lessons. If you’re struggling, he will help you look more into that area of content,” said senior Nate Browning.
And of course, students will miss his soothing Scottish accent.
“I will definitely miss his accent. He has a really cool accent, but he’s also just genuinely a really nice teacher. I feel like I could really talk to him about anything and he would listen,” said Dekhtyar.
Expressions wishes McLoone well in his future endeavors, and he will surely be missed by students and staff alike.
