The time off from the end of the 2020 San Luis Obispo High School year had a major impact on SLOHS and its ASB class. Since all ASB activities are in person and related to being on campus, the sudden online change forced ASB’s students to find new and creative ways to keep students spirited and involved. Activities via Google Classroom and Instagram were now posted weekly. However, this new change could have a positive potential impact on how things run next year.
Next year’s executive council secretary senior Katie Fricks, shares what she thinks about the 2020 school year and where she thinks ASB will stand next year.
Expressions: What are you looking forward to most for next year’s ASB class?
Senior Katie Fricks: I’m looking forward to the culture within our campus and getting to connect with more people!
Expressions: What are some goals you have for next year?
Fricks:A goal we have is to make sure that everyone feels heard, included, and welcomed within SLOHS. We really want to emphasize the suggestion box outside of the ASB classroom for anyone to share their ideas! For this coming year, we will continue carrying that mentality as well as getting hyped about tiger spirit.
Expressions: how has time off from school affected your ASB experience?
Fricks: Time off from school has made me miss seeing the people in ASB along with participation in rallies and everyone happy to be together.
Expressions: What are some positives that have come from not going to school, for the ASB program?
Fricks: Even though it was sad that the remaining events we put on were canceled, I believe we all did a wonderful job putting our best foot forward and created activities through social media. It was exciting to see the different people involved in the challenges and spirit dress up days.
Expressions: How do you think time off from school will affect ASB next year?Fricks: Whether we have the chance to go back to school or not this fall, we are taking this situation day by day and will definitely be attentive to getting work done and do everything we can to make sure tigers have a year to remember.
