The first trimester at San Luis Obispo High School is coming to an end faster than some may have expected. With finals starting November 6, how are students at SLOHS approaching the final test of knowledge?
Expressions decided to interview a select group of Tigers to check up on them!
Expressions: Are you prepared for finals academically?
Freshman Felicia Boudreau: Some of my classes are a little bit of a struggle currently, but simply studying more will help way more.
Sophomore Angel Gomez: Yes, I’m prepared because I’ve been studying for most of my classes.
Junior Cody Johnson: It’s a little rough right now if I’m gonna be honest, but we will get there Monday and I will be ready and confident.
Senior Anthony Rodriguez: I’m mostly ready to take the finals. I feel as if I’ve had plenty of time to think about them, and most of my teachers have given me an idea of what will be on it and how it will all go. I’m always super attentive and engaged in class, so I think I’m more than prepared.
Expressions: What are you doing to prepare for finals?
Boudreau: Focusing on taking thorough notes for each class that I will need notes for and then going over them in my free time or whenever seems necessary.
Gomez: Mainly studying, focusing, and taking good notes.
Johnson: I’m locking in in all of my class and paying more attention now than ever before.
Rodriguez: I wouldn’t say that I’m doing anything in particular. Throughout the whole trimester, I’ve been putting together notes and such so at the very least I’m going to look over those this weekend before finals.
Expressions: How do you feel about the idea of finals?
Boudreau: They’re kinda confusing for someone like me who’s never had a finals week before and because of that it also makes the thought of finals week a lot more stressful.
Gomez: The idea of finals is good because it’s a way to determine where the student stands in a certain area of work or how much they’ve improved.
Johnson: Finals are a smart way to test a students memory but its not like I wouldn’t mind if they just did not happen at all.
Rodriguez: It’s not the greatest thing in the world, especially since it accounts for a decent portion of your grade but I feel as if it is a fair way to gauge a students ability to retain all they’ve learned over the course of the trimester.
Expressions: Do you think finals should take place earlier or later in the trimester?
Boudreau: Where it is right now is fine since it’s a good way to end off the trimester.
Gomez: It’s at a good spot already at the end of the trimester. After 12 straight weeks of learning, I don’t think I could take another one.
Johnson: Probably later because with more time to focus on finals and ignore classwork, the more likely I am to perform at a higher level than normal.
Rodriguez: I think that finals should be a little later since extra time to prepare is always welcome.
Whether you’re taking action into finals or not, it’s important to remember that one test score does not determine the rest of your life. Remember to take advantage of the extended Library hours and free food next Monday Night from six to nine p.m.
It’s all about your mindset now, Tigers. Good luck!
