Music is well known to be a vital aspect in San Luis Obispo High School’s student’s personal identities and expression. Through this medium, people can find needed escape, career possibilities, or just have some fun listening throughout all months of the year.
For those who need a blueprint for their music, or are just curious about new genres and artists, here’s a review playlist for the months of September/October:
Student Recommendation: “Subliminal” by Half ᐧ Alive – “It’s an upbeat song that’s thoughtful and has really great and relatable lyrics. The band is mainly alt indie rock music and their other songs are amazing too,” said senior Kendra Madonna
Singles:
“After Dark ” by Boyscott – Mix of indie rock and soft surf tunes, great song for a calm evening or car drive.
“Nothing Works” by Decklan McKenna – A fun song with a message about being true to yourself and your gut feeling; all hiding under opposing lyrics. Great if you want to feel sure of yourself, or just have a good time!
Albums:
“Everything is Alive” by Slowdive – Intriguing shoegaze style music focused around life and nature with some fun 80’s elements. Great music for a bike ride or a touch of cool ambience.
“For That Beautiful Feeling” by The Chemical Brothers – Funky yet calm music with some cool light electronic aspects. Feels like the soundtrack to an indie punk film.
“Relentless” by the Pretenders – Large mix of different sounds in one album! Each song almost sounds like a different artist, making for an interesting and adventurous listen.
Though there is always new music coming out, think of taking some time to listen to some of these September songs, add them to your own playlists, and open up your music world.
Enjoy listening, Tigers!
