  It is now a new school year at San Luis Obispo High School and administration has welcomed many new staff members, including new Spanish teacher Belen Blasquez. 

  Expressions wanted to take the opportunity to interview Blasquez and learn more about her and her experiences before SLOHS.

Expressions: Where did you go to get your teaching credentials?

Spanish Teacher Belen Blasquez: I moved to SLO last year, so I am a new Californian! I am currently in the teaching credential program at [California State University East Bay]. 

Expressions: How long have you been teaching?

Blasquez: I have been teaching for many years now. I started as an English teacher back when I lived in Argentina. Then, when I moved to the States, I went for a [Bachelor of Arts degree] in Spanish Studies at the University of Washington. In Seattle, I taught Spanish at private schools.

Expressions: Why have you decided to work at SLOHS?

Blasquez: Teaching has always been my passion, and when I saw the opportunity to teach in my new town and contribute to my community, I went for it!  

Expressions: Do you feel welcomed by students and staff?

Blasquez: Very welcomed. The students are fantastic, and the staff is very friendly and has been super supportive since day one.

Expressions: What are your impressions of the school so far?

Blasquez: Everybody I have met so far genuinely desires to support their school and help the students succeed. There’s unity among the staff, and the campus is pretty nice!

Expressions: What do you look forward to in your future time working here?

Blasquez: To learn as much as I can about the students and their challenges and dreams. I want to be an active participant in this community by helping the young achieve their goals and succeed academically and in life.
