Pride Fest is a collection of events centered around celebrating queer joy throughout the month of May, leading up to June. With 19 percent of students at San Luis Obispo High School identifying as LGBTQ+, there’s no shortage of queer joy to be celebrated. Pride Prom: Under the Stars is an official event for 2023 Pridefest happening at SLOHS.
The event is being coordinated by co-chairs Val Jones and Faith Legrande. Jones is representing GALA Pride & Diversity Center along with Trans Central Coast, and Legrande is representing Art and Soul.
“The Goal is to include all LGBTQ+ kids and allies in our whole area,” said Jones.
Pride Prom will be held in the big gym at SLOHS on May 20, from seven to ten p.m. Along with the main area in the big gym, there will be a tent set up outside with arts and crafts for those that enjoy a quieter setting.
Pride Prom is an extremely welcoming event, it’s open to all high schoolers in SLO county and northern Santa Barbara, meaning any high schooler grades 9-12 from Paso to Lompoc can come celebrate Pride Fest on SLOHS campus.
Pride prom will feature a multitude of treats; Skipper’s Coffee, Jamba Juice, and Mocktails have already donated for the event with even more donations and treats to come.
Tickets are sold at GSA club meetings for ten dollars each until May 15, and online for fifteen dollars each until May 20.
There’s room available for up to four hundred students, so come to Pride Prom! It’s an excellent place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to have fun!
